Common Misconception

"Muslims don't believe in or respect Jesus"

The Truth

Muslims revere Jesus (Isa ﷺ) as one of the greatest prophets. Believing in him is a pillar of Islamic faith. He is mentioned more times in the Quran than Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Quran References

Āl 'Imrān 3:45

"The angels said: O Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary."

An-Nisa 4:171

إِنَّمَا ٱلْمَسِيحُ عِيسَى ٱبْنُ مَرْيَمَ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ وَكَلِمَتُهُۥٓ

"The Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul from Him."

Hadith References

Sahih Bukhari 3440

"I am the nearest of all people to Jesus the son of Mary, in this world and in the Hereafter. The Prophets are paternal brothers — their mothers are different but their religion is one."

Detailed Explanation

An entire surah (Surah Maryam, Ch. 19) is dedicated to Mary. Jesus is mentioned 25 times in the Quran vs Muhammad ﷺ mentioned by name only 4 times. Islam teaches Jesus was born of a virgin, performed miracles by God's permission, and will return before the Day of Judgment. Where Islam differs is in rejecting his divinity — which the Quran says Jesus himself never claimed (5:116).

Where This Misconception Came From

A widespread assumption that Islam simply rejects or dismisses Jesus because it rejects the Trinity. This ignores the Quran's extensive and reverent treatment of Isa (Jesus) and Mary.
