وَمَا قَتَلُوهُ وَمَا صَلَبُوهُ وَلَٰكِن شُبِّهَ لَهُمْ ۚ بَل رَّفَعَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ
"They neither killed him nor crucified him — but it was made to appear so to them. Rather, Allah raised him to Himself."
Islamic Clarification
The Islamic position is not a denial of history but a theological statement: Allah raised Jesus up before the crucifixion was completed as it appeared. The Quran says they did not kill him 'for certain' — acknowledging an apparent event occurred. Islam actually honors Jesus by rejecting his humiliating death as unbefitting a prophet. This was not only an Islamic position — Docetist and Gnostic Christian sects in the early centuries also denied the physical death of Jesus, showing this debate predates Islam.
